What is Myofascial Release?
“Myo-” means muscle and “fascial” means “a band or sheet of connective tissue, primarily collagen, beneath the skin that attaches, stabilizes, encloses, and separates muscles and other internal organs.” Fascia connects, supports, and protects each of your muscles and internal structures. This connective tissue is densely woven around your entire body to connect everything from your head to your toes. Myofascial Release is a treatment to release the tension and stress on your Myofascial tissues.
There are a number of factors that put stress, strain, and tension on your muscles. This will lead to restrictions, imbalances, and tensions within the body. The most common issue relating to the Myofascial is Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS). MPS is a chronic pain disorder caused by tensions and tightness within your myofascial tissues. The pain usually originates from specific points within your myofascial tissues called “trigger points” which causes pain in seemingly unrelated parts of your body. This is called referred pain.
People who suffer from chronic headaches find relief from Myofascial Release. Gently massaging on tightened muscles in and around the neck and head reduces headaches and tension.
Massage during pregnancy can prove to be a very beneficial addition to your self-care during the beautiful process of maternity. It may address many of the common discomforts of pregnancy caused by hormone shifts, skeletal changes and circulatory changes of the body. Here are the benefits of massages during your pregnancy:
There are some precautions for prenatal massage as with any therapeutic approach to your health during pregnancy. Please consult your health care provider, or doctor to see if massage is right for you in your pregnancy journey!
Please Note: Massage therapy can be received at any point in your pregnancy – first, second, or third trimester, however, there is generally an increased risk of miscarriage in the first trimester of your pregnancy (first 12 weeks). Please ensure that you are cleared by your doctor before getting massage during this period of time.
A relaxing massage is the perfect way to treat yourself when you are feeling stressed out. The light pressure and soothing atmosphere is designed to help temporarily lower blood pressure, improve skin tone and appearance, and reduce stress-related symptoms.
Relaxation massage techniques will give you a feeling/sense that is deeply calming, thereby increasing your mental health and wellness.
Deep tissue massage techniques aim to stimulate blood flow in your muscles, relieve inflammation, and promote cell regeneration. When you feel tension or spasms in your body, deep tissue massages can help by applying direct pressure to tired muscles and connective tissues.
When you regularly exercise or experience physical and/or emotional strain from your daily activities, your muscles can feel worn out and fatigued. It may be due to the formation of scar tissue as they deteriorate from use or injury. Getting a deep tissue massage can help you break these scar tissue layers and release taut or tense muscles.
Deep tissue massages are not like typical Swedish or Shiatsu massages–they require an experienced massage therapist who can apply hard pressure in their strokes over a period of about 60 to 120 minutes. The treatment aims to release deep-seated tension and cramping that a simple backrub cannot match.
A therapeutic massage is perfect for treating specific health needs related to your physical wellbeing, and can be used to treat a wide range of conditions. Many people don’t know how much a therapeutic massage can treat, and the list includes such things as carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, arthritis, muscle spasms, back pain, respiratory conditions, sports injuries, and more.
Therapeutic massage is often used to help relieve muscle tension and pain. It may be used on its own, but it is also often used in conjunction with other traditional pain treatments. Therapeutic massage may also be helpful for helping people deal with symptoms of conditions including:
Therapeutic massage can help reduce muscle tension, which is why it may help relieve some symptoms that are associated with stress and anxiety.
The release or the stretching of the diaphragm enables to restore flexibility to this muscle in order to recover a suitable respiratory movement.
The diaphragm is the main muscle of breathing. Poor stress management, poor posture or mechanical dysfunction in the chest, among other things, can cause the diaphragm to lock up in the lower position. As a result, this tension creates a feeling of tightness and fatigue in the chest. Over a longer period, this can lead to backaches, digestive problems, feeling of tired legs or headaches. The release or stretching of the diaphragm helps to recover suppleness to this muscle to restore proper breathing and eliminate these problems.
Benefits:
Once the tension on the diaphragm is released, it can begin to participate harmoniously with the respiratory movement and allow the body to recover its maximum lung capacity. Healthy breathing can relax the nervous system, improve sleep, reduce the effects of stress on the body and allow greater focus. The diaphragm release also helps to restore better posture and improve digestion.
