What is MLD?
It treats many conditions and it is a light, manual technique that stretches the skin gently in order to promote lymph flow, decongest tissue and reduce swelling. It is NOT a massage.
How it works
MLD works by gently and rhythmically stretching and releasing the skin in very specific sequences. Aimed to open and close the tiny valves in the superficial lymphatic capillaries, it effectively moves fluid out of the interstitium and through the lymphatic system. This decongestion of the interstitial space not only reduces swelling but also allows for a much healthier tissue environment promoting the natural healing process.
What does the Lymphatic System do for our bodies?
When healthy, lymph (fluid) is collected throughout the body and returns to your heart via a network of lymph vessels and lymph nodes. Lymph nodes produce cells and antibodies which protect out bodies from infection and disease. The system maintains fluid levels in our body tissues. When something disrupts your lymphatic system's process, lymph collects in your arms and legs (and sometimes your trunk) making them swell.
